Dr. Raun Melmed"A PEDIATRICIAN'S PERSPECTIVE"

Dr. Raun Melmed is a developmental and behavioral pediatrician and Director of the Melmed Center in Scottsdale, Arizona. He is also co-founder and Medical Director of the Southwest Autism Research and Resource Center, and Adjunct Senior Researcher
at the Translational Genomics Institute in Phoenix. He has established physician-training programs for the early identification of infants and toddlers with autism and other developmental and behavioral concerns. He is currently investigating the genetics and phenotypes of autism, as well as the use of novel
therapeutic agents in the treatment of ADHD and autism.

  • Understand the goals of early intervention
  • Identify disorders that may mimic ASD
  • Recognize how ASD affects socialization
  • Utilize behavior as communication

Britt Collins, MS, OTR/L"OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY IN THE HOME AND SCHOOL"

Britt Collins, MS, OTR/L is an occupational therapist who has worked with adults and children of all ages in a variety of settings including schools, clinics, homes, hospitals, rehab facilities and skilled nursing facilities. She has created 4 OT DVDs for children with special needs. The DVD series includes OT for Children with Autism, Special Nees & Typical; OT in the Home; OT in the School; and Yoga for Special Needs Children. Britt is the proud co-author of a new book, Sensory Parenting. She has also co-founded a non-profit organization, Special Needs United, that raises money to support children and families who are in need of therapy and equipment.

By attending, participants can:

  • Creating a Sensory Lifestyle for your child at home and in the community
  • Define the 6 subtypes of SPD (Sensory Processing Disorder)    
    Integrate sensory strategies into the school day
